Hello
Intro
Over the last few months at work, I’ve gotten into a habit I really like: every Friday, I spend 20 minutes or so writing up a summary of my week. Sometimes it’s reflections, sometimes it’s disjointed thoughts, sometimes it’s personal stuff going on; lately, lots of the posts have been about my evolving thoughts about AI and how the visa process has been going.
I really like this habit for a few reasons:
- It forces me to reflect and pay attention to what’s been on my mind.
- Even if I don’t feel like I have anything of substance to say, I force myself to go through the motions. (As someone who struggles with maintaining habits, I like seeing my streak continue without putting pressure on myself.)
- I have a place to reference thoughts some time later; it’s interesting to see the things I was thinking about ~6 months into being a manager, for example.
I want to extend that habit to my personal life. A regular habit, without pressure, to put some thoughts down on paper that force me to reflect a bit and that I can reference later. Besides my family (hi mom!), nobody will end up reading these. I’m not doing this because I hope to have an audience, nor though am I doing this to be completely anonymous. I’m a real person and these are my real thoughts.
The Goal
So, here’s the goal: I’m aiming to create a new post every week of 2026. Sometimes they might be super short, oftentimes they will be rambling (like this one), but they’ll always be there. Just to keep myself grounded.
In case anyone does stumble upon this: hi, I’m Jason. My wife and I are moving from FL to Madrid in early 2026. Part of why that’s been a compelling idea to me is because “it would make a great story”. This is how I’ll be documenting that story.
